Oftmals bleiben Katzen beim Versuch, durch ein gekipptes Fenster zu klettern, darin hängen. Durch ihre Befreiungsversuche rutschen die Katzen immer tiefer und werden darin eingeklemmt.
Was passiert dabei?
Die Körperteile jenseits der eingeklemmten Körperpartie werden nicht mehr genügend mit Blut versorgt. Am häufigsten betroffen sind die Hinterbeine. Die Durchblutungsstörungen führen zu Muskel- und Nervenschäden, bis hin zum Funktionsverlust. Je länger die Katze eingeklemmt ist, desto größer ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit bleibender Schäden.
Befreiungsversuche können ebenso Verletzungen an Knochen oder Wirbelsäule nach sich ziehen. Zuviel Kalium im Blut kann die Herztätigkeit beeinträchtigen.
Wie sieht das aus?
Ein typisches Symptom des Kippfenster-Syndroms bei der Katze sind die gelähmten Hinterbeine. Infolge der verminderten Durchblutung fühlen sich die Beine der Katze meist kalt an. Die Pfotenballen erscheinen bläulich verfärbt. Trotz der Taubheit der Hinterbeine haben die Tiere meist Schmerzen. Oftmals bestehen zusätzlich Schocksymptome.
Was ist zu tun?
Schnelles Handeln ist gefragt!
Es empfiehlt sich, eine im Kippfenster gefangene Katze möglichst behutsam nach oben hin aus dem Fensterspalt zu heben. Dabei sollte sie so wenig wie möglich bewegt werden. Nehmen Sie umgehend Kontakt mit uns auf. Nur so kann hoffentlich das Schlimmste verhindert werden!
Welche Folgen hat das?
Die Prognose hängt von den entstandenen Verletzungen ab. Je länger die Katze eingeklemmt war und je stärker sie versucht hat, sich zu befreien, umso größer sind die Verletzungen. Wird die Katze schnell tierärztlich versorgt und langfristig intensiv behandelt, hat sie gute Chancen, sich vollständig zu erholen. Bis dahin kann es jedoch Wochen bis Monate dauern. Manche Katzen bleiben auch gelähmt. Einige Tiere erliegen ihren Verletzungen.
Vorbeugen ist wichtig!
In einem Haushalt mit Katzen sollten gekippte Fenster und Katzen nie unbeobachtet bleiben. Lassen Sie nie ein Fenster gekippt, wenn Sie die Katze alleine zurücklassen.
Am besten sichern Sie Ihre Fenster mit den entsprechenden Vorrichtungen aus dem Fachhandel, denn diese „Erkrankung“ ist vermeidbar!
